Crazy Guy Jeep Club
Geoff, Jeff, Bill, and Mark, the Crazy Guys!
Jeff, Mark and Bill headed out to Cougar Buttes for a fun trip. Sarah was "in country" and joined the fun.
Trip number 80. Final testing of Bill's Scrambler on 39's. Awesome!
Geoff and Bill made a quick trip to Cleghorn to check out Bill's 39's and see what else needs to be adjusted. Almost everything is working good now, just a few minor changes needed.
Trip number 78. Jeff and Bill ran 2N17 to do some testing. Jeff had just repaired his transmission, and Bill had just installed 39s.
Jeff lead a group through Truckhaven and Bill drove Rubi.
Trip # 73 - Bill had a trailer tire blow out in Fullerton, and a second trailer tire blowout before Running Springs. Day over!
Trip #72. A shakedown trip for the new & improved Buggly, and John's new motor. It was a fantastic day!
Trip #71. A beautiful day, ran parts of Achy Breaky and Pumpkin Eater and ate at the SlashX Cafe. Good times.
In honor of the 10th anniversary of the CGJC we went back to the location of our first trip, Truckhaven. It was a beautiful day! Geoff drove the army jeep and had a blast.
Trip # 69. Perfect weather, a beautiful few days in the desert near Death Valley NP. It rained at Briggs cabin on Wednesday, and the weather was 40 low, 60-70 high each day. Perfect!
Bill and Mark took Rubi out to watch KOH. The weather was perfect, but will all those people, the dust was stirred up and there was no wind to take it away...
A multi-purpose trip with Geoff in the military Jeep. Good times.
Trip #66 - Wrecking Ball & Bill tried out his new shotgun.
Just one screen shot from video so far...
Trip #63 - A very fun, low key, camping trip. Geoff drove the 1943 Army Jeep and had a blast.
Trip #62 - Season opener "shake down" trip to White Mountain
Trip # 61 - Jeff and Geoff made a Sunday Run to Hammers to try out Geoff's new 40s.
Trip Number 60. We planned to go to Hammers but it was too windy there. Weather for Truckhaven looked good online so we headed out there. It was a perfect day!
Trip # 59 - At the Hammers again, this time with the teenagers driving half of the Jeeps! We ran Clawhammer, Boulderdash, Chocolate Thunder and Jackhammer to the plaque. Bill broke a front axle shaft so we decided to turn around and extract down hill. Bill broke the a front axle shaft on the other side during the extraction, but no other carnage. Seems like downhill is the best way to extract a vehicle that no longer has 4 wheel drive. 3 wheel drive, or less, just doesn't work at the Hammers!
Wow, what a trip this was. The trail is moderate, at least the first 8 miles, and spectacularly beautiful. Geoff bumped a tree and his passenger's side Dana 60 Knuckle broke into 2 pieces, clearly a failure from previous damage. Yikes! The Welder got a good workout, and without it we would still be there, or driving to Fresno to hunt for a new knuckle. It was quite an adventure for sure.
Trip #57 - Another multi-purpose trip to Calico. Bill brought Rachel, and drove Rubi and ruined the front bumper, Mark and Claire rode in Rubi with Bill and Rachel, Jeff drove the Hulk and had a weird tow vehicle engine shut-down on the way home, and greg drove a Sami. It was way too hot, but still fun.
Trip #55 - A fun multi-purpose trip to Calico...
Trip # 54 - Bill and Geoff went out in Rubi to watch KOH. It was super cold and very windy that day, it actually snowed in Apple Valley and on the Cajon Pass on the way home. It was great to see the race in person!
Trip # 53 - We ran Claw, Aftershock and Back Door. Sarah drove Buggly up Claw and a lot of the desert, and did very well! Crazy Guy winched up Back Door, but made the second climb unassisted.
Trip # 51 - Geoff, Jeff, Bill, and John opened the season with a trip to Cougar Buttes. Bill broke his transfer case output shaft on a ledge.
Our 50th Jeep trip is the big one! Rubicon and Fordyce Creek Trail. What a great trip. We ran the Rubicon starting from the Tahoe end, and camped by Buck Island Lake. The wheeling was fun and the weather was amazing, we swam in the lake everyday and had a beautiful lightning storm in the middle of the night, High Sierra style for sure. Fordyce was tackled on two day trips while staying at Truckee Hotels.
Trip # 49 - We went on a "Shakedown" trip to Cleghorn to test out recent upgrades and make sure all our equipment is ready for the BIG trip the the Rubicon and Fordyce
Trip #48 - A Cinco-de-Mayo trip.
Trip # 47
Trip # 45 - This was a fun trip to Soggy Dry lake and Cougar Buttes to show Geoff's nephew around. BIll blew a tire off the rim, and broke a rear main leaf spring. Geoff cut a hydraulic steering line and had to bring his trailer to the Jeep.
Trip # 44 - EPIC Trip. Ran Outer Limits all day and into the night... Jeff's hood earned a big badge of honor...
Trip #43 - Geoff, Jeff, Bill and John ran Lower and Upper Big Johnson, Down Boulderdash, Up Chocolate Thunder and up Wreckingball. It was a great day with no carnage.
Trip # 42 - Jeff, Mark, and Bill made a run to Calico. The weather was perfect, and Bill's new drive shaft and shifter cable worked perfectly too! No carnage, just a fun low key day.
Trip # 41 - A season opener trip to Big Bear to test out the summer modifications... Bill destroyed his front driveshaft and had to wheel Holcomb Creek in 2 wheel drive...
Trip # 40 - Mark and Bill took a Friday trip to Big Bear and ran Gold Mountain and John Bull. Bill's daughter Sarah and her boyfriend Jeremy, from Australia, joined the fun!
Trip # 39 - An impromptu trip to Calico for Bill, Marcia, and Sarah and Jeff and Tommy. The goal was to find the elusive entrance to Scrambler Canyon, and it was a success. We'll be running that canyon next season. We stopped for lunch at the Wall Street Overlook. Beautiful scenery.
Trip # 38 - Jeff, Geoff and Bill ran Jack, Upper sledge from the mailbox, Big Johnson, Upper Big Johnson, down Boulderdash, played on Tack, the sand dune and Geoff ran upper Sledge above the bailout. It was a great day!
Geoff, Jeff and Bill went to see the Fry Mountain trails. Started at Ballerina Rock where all three "tried" it. Ran Crowbar, skipped over to Shaft where Geoff ran the hard line both down and back up. This was a fun day.
A long day spent on Sledgehammer. Jeff made it up the plaque obstacle unaided! Then he broke his front driveshaft just past the plaque and had to be winched the rest of the way out. (Now he carries a spare)
A great snow run to Cleghorn. Had a little rain while towing, and it was snowing a little while we unloaded the Jeeps. Lots of new snow and snow falling while wheeling, and very cold, about 20 degrees up at the top at 5300 feet. Bill's distributor failed on the way back, and Jeff had to tow him with a strap for about 8 miles back to the trailers.
A great trip out to TH with invited friends John Sarkaria and Randy and his white JK and two little girls. A great time was had by all. Jeff was still recovering from a broken shoulder, so he co-drove John's little red Jeep.
Trip # 33 - This was Mark's first trip in RJ after purchase. It was a very good shakedown run. RJ proved to be a capable wheeler with only a few minor problems.
Buggly's Debut after the "big upgrade" of a Dana 60 front, a 14 bolt rear and new cage work. Wow that thing is wide....
The Crazy Guys run John Bull to try out Dan's new 4:1 transfer case. Very nice upgrade!!!
Dan and Bill took a day trip to Big Bear to run John Bull backwards and forwards. Geoff rode along, since his Jeep is still under repair, and he spotted and drove Bill's Scrambler too! It was a nice outing! Bill was the photographer, so there are no pictures of him and the Scrambler with the exception of one screen shot from video...
A fun trip that ended with the most carnage ever and the most difficult extraction we've ever done... Attempting Gatekeeper, the major carnage obstacle, Geoff broke his rear pinion which froze up the rear end, then broke both front axle shafts trying to drag himself out. Then the steering broke. Ended up pulling the carrier out of the rear axle and removing the broken pinion and putting it all back together. Then winched and towed him, with no steering, to the trailer. Took a short cut and got accosted by a ranger... Why are you here? Why are you here? Didn't get home until 1 am...
Geoff, Jeff, Bill and guest Brig enjoyed a short day at Cougar Buttes. The day was "called" early when a large crack was discovered in Jeff's frame. It was a fun trip, and we all agreed we need to explore Cougar Buttes more. It's a fun place to go.
Another Hammers Trip? Really? The Crazy Guys must love that place.... Geoff, Jeff and Bill ran Sunbonnet and hit Boulderdash on the way out. What a great day! Perhaps our favorite trip to the Hammers yet.
Bill, Jeff, and Geoff returned to the Hammers. We ran Lower Big Johnson, Claw Hammer, Fisure Mountain, Ran Sledgehammer backwards from the "escape" to the mailbox, and a quick run through Tack Hammer. Bill's radiator sprung a leak, ending his day early...
Great first trip of the season, with all 5 crazy guys in attendance. Jeff conquered Gatekeeper. Bill tried out his new front Dana 44. Geoff tried out his new BFG Krawlers and discovered that he had a broken drivers side front axle shaft.
Great final trip of the season, with all 5 crazy guys in attendance, and a guest, Paul.
Perhaps our favorite location yet?? Geoff and Jeff prefer the Hammers, but this is a very close second.
We're going to have to go back to Stoddard. Dan broke an axle right away and then we only found Pumpkin Eater by accident at the end of the day. Only Geoff got to run down, up and back down again. (And broke a rear axle in the process.)
We made a quick trip to Cleghorn- hoping to find snow. It turned out to be one of our favorite day trips ever. Snow is fun and unique for us So. Cal. desert wheelers.
A trip to the legendary Hammers. We ran Clawhammer on Saturday, took a look at back door on Saturday night, and some ran Sledgehammer on Sunday.
Geoff, Jeff and Bill made a day trip to Big Bear to run these two trails again. The trails keep changing and providing a new experience.
This was the trip where Bill ripped open his oil pan on the trail.
Jeff, Geoff, and Bill enjoyed 4 days of wheeling in Moab. It was a great trip.
Jeff, Geoff and Bill went on a short day trip to Cleghorn to test out everything before the Moab trip. Sadly there are only 4 pictures in a little snow patch that was left over from winter. It was a great day and we all had fun.
A fun trip with Dan, Bill, Jeff, and Dave.
Dan's first trip with the Crazy Guy Jeep Club.
The famous "Flopsy Gulch" trip...
This is the trip when Bill discovered that he had a broken front axle shaft on his newly installed Dana 44 axles. Bummer. So, there wasn't much 4 wheeling since Bill was in 2 wheel drive...
Our 1st Trip ever!
